Business Leaders in Texas Say Workers Cost Too Much

Business leaders in Texas are sweating over rising employee wages.

The Dallas Federal Reserve released its monthly manufacturing index earlier today, and the figure came in at -6.2. The index has not been positive since December 2014.

And some business leaders told the Dallas Fed last month that they had major problems finding qualified workers, and some of those workers could not even perform basic mathematics.

"Department of Labor rules and regulations are slowing growth and reducing hiring due to increased management time spent on compliance and higher costs of labor," one survey respondent said in the August report.

This trend could cause more employers to replace human workers with robots. BI Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service, expects enterprise robotics shipments to nearly triple by 2021.
